Today, SEAT S.A. will begin vaccinating the citizens of Barcelona from one of its "motor homes" – the trucks that are used in motor racing competitions and have been adapted for healthcare use – following an agreement reached with the Generalitat de Catalunya in February. It will be located in the Born neighborhood of Barcelona, and doses will be administered without prior appointment, from 10 am to 8 pm, 7 days a week. The aim is to accelerate vaccinations amongst the citizens of this neighborhood, especially to those citizens over 40 years of age or in vulnerable situations and who have difficulties in accessing the vaccination at the usual points.
"Motor home" adapted for healthcare use will being operating in Barcelona's Born district.
In addition to the truck, which will change location as required, SEAT S.A. will also make available its health personnel, who have extensive experience in administering the COVID-19 vaccine. To date, they have distributed more than 20,000 doses of the vaccination to workers at SEAT S.A. along with employees associated with the Volkswagen Group and also of supplier companies. At present, 91% of SEAT workers have at least one dose of vaccine, and before August all of them will have the complete vaccination schedule. All this has been possible thanks to the agreement reached with the Generalitat de Catalunya in February, in which SEAT S.A. provided resources to support the public health services in the administration of the vaccines, demonstrating its commitment to ensure that immunization reaches as many people as possible, in the shortest possible time.
Objective is to accelerate vaccinations among citizens over 40 years of age & vulnerable.
With the truck located in the Born, next to the Arc de Triomf, it will be possible to administer 1,400 vaccines per day. In the coming days, it will be joined by two other mobile units that will encourage vaccination in other areas of the city. The objective is to move these motor homes to places where it is necessary to reinforce the available resources to bring vaccination closer to citizens and thus encourage a higher vaccination rate.
"With COVID-19 statistics on the rise in recent days, this is a decisive moment to halt the advance of the pandemic, and the most effective way is to vaccinate young people, the group in which we are now seeing the most cases. We are very excited and proud to be able to help the Administration to speed up the process with our resources", said Patricia Such, SEAT S.A.'s Director of Health, Safety and Emergencies.
SEAT S.A., firm commitment with health
Since the arrival of the pandemic, SEAT S.A. has been committed to helping society. Besides manufacturing health resources to donate to medical centers in view of a shortage of material (emergency ventilators and masks), the company was the first in Spain to carry out PCR tests on its 15,000 employees in order to guarantee their health and to avoid the contagion of COVID-19, at the time when it was decided to gradually resume activity. Today, SEAT S.A. performs some 4,500 antigen tests every day to detect asymptomatic cases. Thanks to this strategy, it has managed to maintain its productive activity with hardly any contagion within its facilities.
To date, SEAT has administered more than 28,000 vaccinations.
In addition, in May the company began to vaccinate its workers and those from Volkswagen Group and the company’s suppliers, in line with the plans set out by the Government of Catalonia. A few weeks ago, SEAT S.A. reached an agreement with the Government of the Balearic Islands to help in the vaccination process of its citizens. To speed up the immunization process, SEAT S.A. has three "motor homes" in Majorca, Minorca and Ibiza, with four nurses and four administrative staff employed to vaccinated people in each "motor home", in which more than 8,000 doses have already been administered.
